A lot of people have been inspired by Molly's wine cork wreath and the map coasters.  Made me think about how much I love old wine jugs (and Friday happy hours).  I love the shape and the color of the glass, the greeny-blue. Reminds me of sea glass and summer (and the end of the week).  I like them so much, I've found ways to use them around my house.


Take a look at this small wine jug that I thrifted and turned into a lamp.  I may have creative ideas but sometimes when it comes to executing I have to call on Mimi (the handy mom to these sisterzzz).  All it took was a lamp making kit, a pretty green shade from Target and voila!    Nifty, no?

This large wine jug Mimi thrifted for $3.  I had to have it.  We talked about making it into another lamp (we do call her the lamp lady after all) but it was just too big.  So instead, we took some reeds from Home Goods and a pretty taupe grosgrain ribbon and made a nice piece for the corner of my living room.

Etsy Treasury How-To: A Mini Tutorial

Have you ever created a Treasury on Etsy!? I never paid the idea much thought...until this weekend. I listed our new Shamrock Onesie and thought, "Hmmm, I wonder what other St. Patty's Day goodies are out there in Etsy-land." That's when the idea of making a Treasury came to mind!

And just in case you are wondering, "What the heck is a Treasury?!" Let me pause and provide this description straight from the Etsy website:

"Treasury is an ever-changing, member-curated shopping gallery comprised of lists of items. Lists contain 16 items. Members can feature their favorite items, items selected on a theme or whatever they like. Any Etsy member can create a Treasury list, and there is no limit to the number of lists you can create. "

So, whenever you go to the main Etsy page, someone's Treasury (or Handpicked Items) is shown on the front page. Etsy refers to a Treasury as a "shopping gallery." I've seen another blogger refer to it as "paying it forward" since Etsy recommends against including your own items in your Treasury. And the best part? Sellers included in your Treasury are automatically notified! The only other advice Etsy gives is, "Be diverse. Make it beautiful." LOVE that!

The Treasuries are super easy to make - here are some brief instructions to get you started!

1. Log in to Etsy
2. Click on "Buy"
3. Click on "Explore Treasury"
4. Click on "Create a List"
5. Start creating (add title, description, URLs, tags, etc.)!



Thou Shall Covet: I.C.E.

**We did it!  We did it!  We came up with a name for our "Finds" posts:  Thou Shall Covet.  Because lets face it, there's a lot out there we covet and that inspires us...wish we could have it all!  

Thou Shall Covet....all things ICE.

Twenty-ish inches of SNOW covered in an inch or so of ICE and now it's snowing again as I type.  I usually am depressed by this point in the winter but I'm making the most of it.  Today I'm finding inspiration in all of the snow and ice.

Have you seen Meet the Dubien's?  She has the best crafts!  I've always wanted to make snow cones or snow cream but didn't know how to do it.  This snow ice cream looks so easy and dare I say....yummy?

Here's another *cutie* Meet the Dubien's craft--ring pop rings!  Felt?  Check.  Buttons?  Check. Glue?  Check.  Ring Pops?  After Target run today-Check.  The girls will love this on our next snow day. 

It's known far and wide that R.E.D. is my favorite color.
Look at these pins with the red (she calls it ruby-ahh) with the milky white.  Yum.

These are cutouts sold for the all kinds of craftiness--bottlecap pendants and hairbows, those little glass magnets, etc.  I've never done any of those types of crafts, but I was just drawn to the fresh take on winter colors--pink and gray.  Maybe I'll be inspired to try something new?

And lastly, I'm not so much coveting these as I NEED them.  

Chains for my running shoes.  It's just too long a winter to spend on the treadmill.

Finds: For the librarian in me (and you)

This week's finds are a direct result of Molly's positive peer pressure.  See, I'm a librarian by training (and at the risk of sounding geeky, by passion).  But the three little knuckleheads I call daughters are the reason I stay home and blog instead.  Now Molly has been on me for weeks now to do a finds post on all the cool, hip librarian-ish stuff out there on Etsy.  So, I finally decided to take a gander and holy cow. There is some COOL stuff for the book centric.  Take a look at what I found!

First, you have to have a librarian charm bracelet made of old typewriter keys.  

Should be in every librarian job descrip, yes?  Check out ALikelyStory's shop--tons of cool jewelry.

Hair accessories made out of book pages! Seriously?  I could wear these to work.  (Or just at home when I am feeling bookish.)

I've always wanted one of these in my house because a) i'm short and b) they're straight out of the library.  Even Crate and Barrel thinks they are cool.

When I had my first, Eleanor, my cousins threw me a baby shower where you were asked to bring a book for baby's library.  I thought it was the sweetest idea.
These invitations are perfect for that type of shower!

And finally, somewhere out there on CraigsList or in a dusty old warehouse there is a library card catalog with my name on it.  I will hold DVD's, our Wii, all of my jewelry, whatever, something in it.  In the meantime, I could always go with this repro from Target.

Finds: Yellow & Turquoise is my new black

When I saw this fabric in Court's stash, I got excited. 

When she sent me a picture of the finished project, I almost got giddy.  

My color combo fascination has now switched from red and tiffany blue to:

YELLOW and tiffany blue.

These booties are pretty much perfect.  Just perfect.  

Right down to the packaging, Itty Bitty Baby's hair clip is so sweet and would be perfect with our new dress.

And of course we have to explore how this would look in our homes.  I love this office by Mark Lund because it's still my comfort zone: traditional and somewhat neutral but with these new pops of color.
 Makes it look like spring has sprung!

Finds: Bedroom Makeover

I've been reading a lot of blogs lately that are inspiring me to tackle some re-decorating around the house.  Am I the only one who likes to change it up every once in awhile?  First project up to bat: our master bedroom.  I love my master bedroom but our bedding is a quilt and well, it's 9 degrees out there.  Time for the down comforter....but...I'm without a duvet.  

So it's prompting a little re-thinking of my room.  

Here is my inspiration room from Miss Mustard Seed.  If you haven't read her blog already, go now.  Okay, wait until you read this post then go.  LOVE her stuff.   This is her guest room, but I love the palate: the creamy walls and comforter with pops of color from the pillows and the dark furniture and picture frames.  It is so peaceful but yet classic, isn't it?  I like to think my style is classic.

Another angle.  I like the pops of red and green.  

Those are my two favorite colors and you'll find them throughout my house.

I love the trend in feed and grain sack pillows.  Etsy has a number of them, as well as Pottery Barn.  Check out this cool one that you can have monogrammed.

I have been struggling for a long time over what duvet to buy.  There are a ton of beautiful duvets on Pottery Barn but none that I could picture in my room with my stuff.  But I did stumble across this one that is classic and gives me that creamy, neutral palatte with which to work.

1.  Need a unique, simple & fun Christmas card!?  Check out WestWillowDesigns on Etsy!  Sonya has designed our Christmas cards for the past 2 years.  She's fantastic (and super quick!).  She will print them out & ship them to you OR you can print them out on your own!  Here are a few of my favorites:

2.  Most of the time, our Christmas cards end up in a pile on the counter (sorry friends!).  Here are some ideas to avoid this!  I love this Christmas card tree display from Ballard Designs:

Pottery Barn Kids also has wire card holders in the shape of a star and a snowflake! And if you want a DIY card display, check out these ideas from ohdeedoh!

3.  After you are done displaying those cards, use this tag whole punch to make next year's gift tags out of last year's Christmas cards!  Thanks to Mimi and Courtenay for this idea!

4.  When we were little, we used to make so much fun of  my mom's vintage Christmas tree ornaments.   But, as always, Mimi was ahead of the trend.  You can find vintage ornaments for sale all over Etsy and Ebay these days.  I'm on the look out for my own stash, so I can make one of these wreaths!

5. "Ho Ho Ho" blocks from Frou Frou Decor.  This is Flannery's most recent Christmas purchase!

Elf is on Broadway!  I think a trip to NYC is in order - I LOVE this movie!  It runs until January 2nd, so if you're in the area, go see it!

7. Target has the most adorable Trumpettetoo Christmas socks & tights for babies and toddlers!  I love this brand of socks for my baby boy because they are the only ones that stay on!   My favorites are  the Mary Jane socks for little girls. :)
